London Lions have acquired scoring Jordan Whelan ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The Manchester born 25-year-old played last season at the Worcester Wolves averaging 10 points a game in a tough year.

Following junior basketball at Manchester Magic Whelan headed off to college in America, concluding his time there at Mid America Nazarene University where he averaged 13 points and 4 rebounds a game. That number increased in Germany’s Regionalliga with Hertener Loewen to 18 points a game before returning to the BBL.

Lions boss, Vince Macaulay commented, “Jordan adds to our back court with some scoring punch. He has a real scorers mentality and I believe we can harness that into a real threat. I think his BBL high is 30 or something so we know he can do it, hopefully with some experience around him he can be more consistent whilst giving that defensive effort we know he always does”.

Apart from BBL action, Whelan will also study at the University of East London with access to some of the best facilities in the Country. The guard is looking forward to the challenge  ”I am really looking forward to being part of a great programme, especially after recent successes. I can’t wait to get after it with the team and do everything I can to help us win more games and give the fans another good year”.

Whelan joins Dii’jon Allen-Jordan, Brandon Peel and Jorge Romero on the squad, with more player announcements expected this week.

Fans will get to see the team for the first time on the 6th and 9th of September, Cal State Poly are the visitors to the Copper Box on the 6th whilst Euro-team, Bakken Bears, Danish Champions, will be next up at the University of East London on the 9th.
