Manchester Giants v London Lions
Details: Friday 28th December, 7:30pm, Trafford Power League Arena,
Last meeting: Giants 83-86 Lions (Championship, November 2018)
Summary: The Lions close out a fantastic start to the season on the back of a marvellous run from January to the end of last season. This term Vince Macaulay’s men have only lost two games in all competitions. Top of the table and into the Cup Final. The Giants have also had a very good season, still in with a possibility of facing the Lions in the Final if they can overcome a deficit vs the Glasgow Rocks and on the back of winning 4 of their last 6 games.
Manchester Giants; The Giants have been moving from strength to strength this season. Astute recruiting has seen Coach Danny Byrne blend a team in the way he wants them. Willie Clayton has claimed the plaudits, but recruiting experience in the shape of James Jones and putting enough people around Bankevics to keep him playing sensibly has turned the Gianst into a tough proposition. Last time out was a Trophy victory knocking out defending Champions Leicester Riders.
Head Coach; Coach Byrne admits he doesn’t have the most resources but he has shown he can squeeze every ounce out of what he has. He has out on the floor a tenacious team held together by a staring centre, capable guards and excellent shooting.
Last Time Out; The last time the two teams met was in the Championship back in November, whilst the Lions led well in the fourth a 14-0 run from the Giants cut the deficit to a three point game which the Lions took 83-86
One To Watch; Centre, Willie Clayton who leads the League in rebounds. A number of 20 rebound plus performances announced him to the League.
Season record: Lions 1-0 Giants all comps
