A London Lions’ select team will face former NBA player and Coach, Walter McCarthy’s NCAA Division One outfit, Evansville University on Saturday at the University of East London.

The scrimmage game will take place at 5.30pm as part of the partnership between the Lions and the University of East London.

Coach McCarthy, a veteran 10 year player in the NBA,  left the staff of the Boston Celtics after five seasons and joined Evansville in 2018 to lead the UE program to some stunning results last season.

Asked about the team’s trip to Europe, Coach McCarthy said “This is an opportunity for our team to continue to connect, it will be interesting to see how these pro teams play us and that itself will be a learning experience for us.”

UE arrive on Wednesday and then following the game against the Lions on Saturday, they travel to Belgium and then to Paris.

Lions’ Head Coach Vince Macaulay added, “It is an honour to host yet another Division One programme, it’s a little early for us to put our full team on the floor but veterans Joe Ikhinmwin and Andre Lockhart will lead us and we have some excellent talent on show”.

There is a small £3 entry fee on the door and with limited seating, if you are attending, please come early.
