BBL Championship
Bristol Flyers 80-64 London Lions (24-10, 46-33, 62-47)

A loss on the road in Bristol breathed some serious life into the Flyers hopes of sealing a place in the benecos BBL Play-Offs.

A blistering start paved the way for a memorable triumph that put a minor dent in the title prospects of Lions, with Mike Vigor having the added satisfaction of passing 1,000 BBL Championship points in the game.

Justin Robinson also passed 1,000 points in the BBL in just two seasons, but he would have been unhappy at the Lions start to the game. The visitors started poorly and never recovered, with Flyers racing their way into an early double-digit advantage after a breath-taking 24-10 opening quarter.

Lions shot the ball poorly and as badly as they have done in any game this season, only making 25 of 79 from the field. Credit was also due to the Flyers defence for that.

Game hero(es) – The power of Edozie stood out as he led the way with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards for the triumphant hosts. Gray didn’t have his greatest shooting night, yet still managed a double-double too, with 16 points and 13 rebounds and 5 assists.

Lions’ boss Vince Macaulay was philosophical, “We have to be realistic, I said to the guys, Bristol came out like their lives depended on it whilst we still had our headphones on, as we fought back we couldn’t put the ball in the basket and everything they threw up went in, credit to them for a great effort in front of their home fans, we will have to be better, and we will.”

The Lions get right back to it with a home game against Newcastle Eagles on Sunday, themselves having only lost 2 of their last 12, then welcome Bristol to London next Wednesday.
