London, Sunday 12 April — The London Lions delivered a commanding performance at the Copper Box Arena, defeating Sheffield 81–60 in a game that never felt in doubt, with London controlling the tempo and momentum from the opening tip.
From the outset, the Lions imposed their identity on both ends of the floor, building an early lead and steadily extending it through disciplined defence and efficient offence. Sheffield showed brief flashes, but London’s control never wavered as they secured their ninth straight victory in convincing fashion.
Shavar Reynolds Jr. and Aaryn Rai led the Lions with 11 points apiece, while contributions came from across the roster in a balanced team display that saw nearly every player get on the scoresheet. Ciaran Sandy, Joel Scott, and Amin Adamu each added 9 points, with London’s depth and ball movement proving too much for Sheffield to handle.
“Great execution. Sticking to the game plan, everyone doing what they were supposed to do and this is the outcome,” Sandy said postgame.
London set the tone early in the first quarter. Reynolds opened scoring with a smooth drive and pull-up, before Tarik Phillip knocked down a step-back three to spark the offence. Rai added a three of his own as the Lions raced out to an early lead, forcing Sheffield onto the back foot.
Despite some free throws keeping the visitors within reach, London’s physicality inside began to show. Scott provided an immediate impact off the bench, scoring on back-to-back possessions in the paint, while strong ball movement led to a high-low finish between Jordan Williams and Scott. A late three from Chaundee Brown Jr. pushed the lead to eight, with the Lions up 23–15 after one.
The second quarter saw London tighten their grip on the game.
Defensive pressure ramped up immediately, forcing a shot clock violation to open the period. The Lions mixed full-court pressure with zone looks, disrupting Sheffield’s rhythm despite allowing a handful of offensive rebounds. Sandy provided a spark offensively with a tough finish and smart cutting, while London’s defensive intensity continued to create stops.
Midway through the quarter, the Lions broke the game open. Leading 34–19, London went on a 7–0 run out of a timeout to extend the margin beyond 20 points. Amin Adamu added a steal and score during the stretch, while Sandy knocked down a three to maintain momentum. By halftime, the Lions held a commanding 48–28 lead.
The third quarter removed any remaining doubt.
Sheffield opened with a three from Dirk Williams, but London responded immediately. Kameron McGusty created a steal that led to a transition finish for Brown, before Reynolds continued to control the offence out of the pick-and-roll. On the defensive end, Scott drew a charge, underlining the Lions’ physical presence.
Ethan Price added a three from the top of the key to push the lead past 20, and McGusty followed with a strong finish off the dribble to extend the margin to 57–31. Although Sheffield briefly responded with perimeter shooting, the Lions maintained control, closing the quarter with another defensive stop to lead 66–39.
In the final period, London continued to dictate.
Adamu sparked the quarter with a steal and emphatic finish, later adding a corner three to keep the pressure on. Rai showcased his strength inside with a composed finish through contact, while Williams converted an and-one opportunity after a well-timed pass from Rai.
Sheffield found some late scoring through Williams, but the outcome was never in question. London remained composed, managing the clock and maintaining their defensive intensity to close out an 81–60 victory.
Head Coach Tautvydas Sabonis praised his team’s discipline and defensive commitment postgame.
“Very well executed game plan today from the gentleman. Holding them to 60 points is something we really pride ourselves in. If it wasn’t for the last five minutes I think it could have been even less but guys understood the task at hand and did a very good job today, I’m proud of them.”
The win reinforces the Lions’ identity as one of the league’s most complete teams, combining defensive intensity with balanced scoring as they continue to build momentum heading into the postseason.
London return to action at the Copper Box Arena on Friday, where they will face Cheshire in another key matchup.
