Newcastle, Friday 9 January — The London Lions delivered a commanding defensive performance on the road, overwhelming the Newcastle Eagles 76–50 in a statement win that reinforced their defensive identity.

London controlled the game from the opening tip, holding Newcastle to its lowest scoring output of the season while dictating tempo, winning the paint battle, and forcing difficult shot quality throughout the night.

Shavar Reynolds Jr. led the Lions with 15 points, consistently pressuring the rim and controlling pace. Ciaran Sandy followed with 14 points, knocking down shots within the flow of the offence, while Ethan Price delivered an efficient 12 points in under 16 minutes, repeatedly converting inside against mismatches. Balanced scoring across the rotation fueled a complete team performance.

For Newcastle, Terrell Burden Jr. was the only Eagle in double figures with 15 points, highlighting London’s ability to contain the rest of the roster.

London suffocated Newcastle early, forcing turnovers, contested looks, and late-clock attempts. The Eagles managed just 10 points in the opening quarter and struggled to find rhythm from the perimeter, finishing the night well below their season scoring average.

The Lions established early control through paint pressure and ball movement. Quick finishes from Price and Deane Williams sparked an early run as Newcastle was forced into rushed attempts. Reynolds continued to attack downhill, and London built an 18–10 lead after one quarter.

Newcastle briefly pushed back with transition baskets early in the second, but London responded by forcing switches and consistently feeding its bigs inside. Reynolds’ three off a handoff and strong interior play from Price extended the margin, as the Lions entered halftime firmly in control at 41–26.

The third quarter removed any doubt. Crisp ball movement led to an and-one finish for Price, a Deane Williams three, and a corner triple from Sandy as London stretched the lead beyond 20. Karolis Lukošiūnas capped the period with a three to send the Lions into the fourth ahead 63–37.

London maintained defensive pressure throughout the final frame, limiting Newcastle’s ability to generate sustained offence while continuing to move the ball and execute efficiently. The result marked one of the Lions’ most complete performances of the season on both ends of the floor.

The Lions and Eagles are set to meet again in the SLB Trophy Final later this month, where both teams are expected to make adjustments following today's result.

London turns its attention back to EuroCup play, traveling to Turkey to face Türk Telekom Ankara on Wednesday.
