Newcastle, Saturday 23 January — The London Lions delivered a commanding road performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Newcastle Eagles 94–68 in the SLB Cup Quarter-Finals to secure a place in the semi-finals, where they will face either the Sheffield Sharks or Cheshire Phoenix. The two sides are also set to meet again next week in Birmingham for the SLB Trophy Final.
Six Lions reached double figures in a balanced offensive display, led by Amin Adamu with 17 points. Chaundee Brown Jr. added 15 points in his strongest performance since joining the squad, while Deane Williams continued his strong recent form with 13 points, providing energy, cutting, and efficient finishing throughout the afternoon.
The Lions’ ball movement and spacing generated clean looks early, while defensive pressure disrupted Newcastle’s rhythm and forced difficult possessions. London finished the afternoon with 18 assists on 33 made field goals, highlighting the collective flow of the offence.
London wasted no time asserting control. Phillip opened the scoring with a strong cut and and-one finish before Brown knocked down a second-chance three to spark an early 6–0 run.
Adamu attacked in transition and in the half court, scoring twice off Shavar Reynolds Jr. penetration to push the lead into double figures. Late ball movement produced an open corner three for Nigel Hawkins just before the buzzer, sending the Lions into the second quarter ahead 26–16.
The momentum carried into the second period as Reynolds consistently broke down the defence and the Lions dominated the paint. Despite a brief Newcastle response from Terrell Burden Jr. and Deion Hammond, London closed the half strongly behind a deep Lukošiūnas three following a steal, stretching the advantage to 49–33 at the break.
London broke the game open in the third quarter with a barrage from beyond the arc. Deane Williams knocked down two triples, Phillip added another, and Lukošiūnas followed to make four consecutive threes and force a Newcastle timeout as the lead stretched beyond 20.
The Lions continued to convert inside through cuts and transition opportunities, carrying a commanding 75–56 advantage into the final quarter.
Any remaining resistance was quickly extinguished as Ciaran Sandy and Adamu continued to attack mismatches, while London’s defensive pressure limited Newcastle to one shot and contested finishes. The margin steadily grew as the Lions closed out a comprehensive 94–68 victory.
With the win, London advances to the SLB Cup Semi-Finals, where they will face either Sheffield or Cheshire, pending the result of Sunday’s quarter-final matchup.
Attention now turns back to Europe, as the Lions travel to Greece to face Panionios Athens in EuroCup action on Wednesday.
