London Lions Pace the Sevenoaks Suns 69-84 to Reach the 2023 WBBL Cup Finals. Katsiaryna Snytsina and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan Combine for 29 Points to Power the Londoners Through to the First Showpiece Final of the Season
The Lions qualified for the 2023 WBBL Cup final by toppling historic league rivals Sevenoaks Suns 69-84. After a shaky first quarter, the Londoners used their second and third-quarter dominance to power past the two-time league champions, where the fourth period was used to keep the Suns at bay.
Forward Mikiah “Kiki” Herbert-Harrigan led from the front with a 15-point, 7-rebound, 1-assist and 1-block display to contribute to her index rating of 12. Although unable to connect from deep, the proud Anguilla native flexed her shooting skills sinking two mid-range shots and two long-distance 2-pointers. “Kiki” was also able to weave her way, almost effortlessly, through the paint en route to her 7 of 14 clip from within the semi-circle.
One of the Lions' several ‘Catch-and-Shoot Wizards,’ Katsiaryna Snytsina, lit up the Surrey Sports Park with 4 long-range shots from the 3-point line. Never the one-dimensional player, Snytsina grabbed 4 rebounds, and 2 steals to keep Sevenoaks at bay.
Playmaker extraordinaire Holly Winterburn ran the Lions’ offence almost to perfection, dishing out 11 assists whilst grabbing 2 steals, 3 rebounds and scoring 7 points. Captain Shanice Beckford-Norton contributed 10 points to the bench mob’s gaudy 33 points whilst taking down 3 rebounds and handing out 2 assists.
Contributing massively to the Lions' 12 second-chance points was forward Shequila Joseph went to work in the paint, rising to claim a game-high 11 rebounds, 8 of which were defensive.
2-Way guard Taylor Murray terrorised the Suns' offence to the tune of a game-high 4 steals. The University of Kentucky Wildcat ended the game with more steals than Sevenoaks' entire team. Ever the willing facilitator, Murray also dished out 7 assists and scored 5 points to help the Londoners through to the 2023 WBBL Cup finals.
