The London Lions today announce that Team Captain Ovie Soko will be leaving the Club. Soko will focus on making a full recovery from an injury that has affected his ability to contribute to the team on an everyday basis. The Lions extend our gratitude to Ovie for his commitment to the club and the cause of British basketball during his two tenures in East London.
Amongst a list of accomplishments, Ovie captained the first U.K. squad to win a EuroCup match since 2004, in addition to the first ever club to record five wins in total. Ovie’s domestic achievements include captaining the Lions for the 2023 BBL Cup win and averaging 19.9 points and 8.6 rebounds during the 2019-2020 campaign.
We look forward to seeing Ovie courtside at the Copper Box and continuing our work together in the community - we wish him the very best for all he has planned for the future.
