Leicester, Saturday 24 October 2026 — London Lions Women secured a 92-75 road victory over Leicester Riders on Saturday, earning their first away win of the Women’s Championship season behind a decisive second-quarter run and a strong transition offence.
Amaris Baker and Annika Shah led the Lions with 26 and 25 points respectively, combining for 51 points as London pulled away from a close contest. Chloe Wilson added 19 points and five rebounds, while Julia Tuchscherer contributed five points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
London held a narrow 20-17 lead after the opening quarter, but Leicester continued to challenge in the second. With just over four minutes remaining before half-time, the hosts moved ahead 32-30, prompting a London timeout.
The Lions responded immediately. Tuchscherer tied the game before Baker came up with a steal, setting up Shah to score and complete a three-point play at the free-throw line. Baker then extended the advantage, and although Leicester continued to find answers, London finished the half with a strong scoring surge.
Shah connected from beyond the arc before adding free throws, while Baker knocked down a three-pointer with just over a minute remaining. Shah's driving layup in the closing seconds capped a 17-4 run after the timeout, sending the Lions into half-time with a 47-36 lead.
Head Coach Kyla Nelson highlighted the team's defensive work and its ability to turn stops into scoring opportunities.
“It was great to get our first road win. We put together some nice possessions on both ends, and were able to generate offence from our defence with transition scores that took the pressure off for us,” said Nelson.
Leicester opened the second half with consecutive baskets to reduce the deficit, but London quickly restored its advantage. Tuchscherer knocked down a three-pointer before Shah finished inside, and the Lions continued to capitalise on opportunities in transition.
With London leading 61-49, Baker scored back-to-back fastbreak baskets before setting up Shah for another transition finish, extending the advantage to 67-49. Wilson and Baker added further scores as the Lions maintained their momentum, taking a 71-54 lead into the final quarter.
London continued to build on that advantage in the fourth. Baker and Wilson combined for another scoring burst before Macy Spinks connected from three-point range to give the Lions their largest lead of the game at 81-58 with 6:39 remaining.
The visitors managed the closing stages to complete a convincing 92-75 victory, with Baker's all-round contribution and Shah's scoring helping London pull away after a competitive opening half.
Reflecting on the team's progress, Nelson praised the group for putting its work in practice into action and highlighted the importance of building confidence through those performances.
“I can see the group trying to execute what we’ve been speaking about. Coming away with some success in those things will help with our confidence moving forward,” said Nelson.
The result gives the Lions their first road win of the Women’s Championship season, providing a positive platform as they look to build momentum in the weeks ahead.
