The latest round of the 2023 Women’s EuroBasket Qualifiers are almost upon us, and the London Lions are incredibly proud that four players from the team will be representing their respective home countries.
Forward Shequila Joseph, guard Holly Winterburn, and center Azania Stewart will don the blue, red and white for Great Britain and Paulina Hersler will be draped in Sweden’s iconic blue and gold.
This window consists of two games for all participating teams. Gameday One tips off on Thursday, 9th February, and Gameday Two concludes the window three days later on Sunday, 12th February.
Great Britain, sitting in fourth place, will take on Group G rivals Estonia and Portugal on Gameday One and Two, respectively, on home shores at the National Basketball Performance Centre.
The clash with Estonia is an all-important revenge game after Team GB lost the first encounter by three points, 69-72. Veteran Azania Stewart led GB’s charge with a phenomenal 17-point and 12-rebound performance, whilst Holly Winterburn contributed 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Great Britain beat Portugal 69-76 on the road back in November. Vocal leader Stewart contributed to the national team’s gaudy 21-assist total and came up with a vital steal which eventually led to a 3-pointer to put GB up 20-24, in the second quarter.
Paulina Hersler makes her highly anticipated return to the Swedish national side against Israel and Latvia, respectively, after missing the previous round through injury. Hersler recorded nine points, two rebounds and one assist in her last game for her national side, versus Latvia, during the first 2023 Women’s EuroBasket Qualifier window.
