London, Sunday 10 May – London Lions captain Ovie Soko has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
A London native and one of the most respected figures in British basketball, Soko closes the chapter on a professional career that has spanned more than a decade across Europe and the international stage. Since joining the Lions in 2022, Soko has brought leadership, professionalism, toughness, and experience to the organisation, helping elevate the culture both on and off the court.
Throughout his time in London, Soko became a fan favourite not only for his presence on game day, but for the passion and pride he carried every time he represented his hometown club. As captain, he played a major role in guiding the Lions through one of the most ambitious periods in franchise history while mentoring the next generation of players within the organisation.
Following the announcement, teammate Joel Scott reflected on the impact Soko had throughout the season.
“Love that guy, he’s had a heck of a career. I learned a lot from him this year and it’s a pleasure to see what his career was and how well he did.”
Soko also addressed the Lions fans and organisation following his final game in London.
“Feels amazing, every last one of you guys that’s made this journey incredible for me, especially this year, my teammates, all the coaching staff, I just want to thank everyone in this building for making this a very special moment for me, thank you.”
