Surrey Scorchers

Lorenzo Cugini and Isaiah Reese scored 18 points apiece as the Lions moved a step closer to a top four finish in the BBL with a 92-71 victory against Surrey Scorchers, on Wednesday.

Both Reese and Cugini hit four three-pointers, with the former pulling down three rebounds and dishing out as many assists, while Cugini had six boards and four assists. Chris Tawiah had his best offensive night of the season, going perfect from field for a 14-point haul, adding seven rebounds and a couple of blocks.

Nikhil Lawry’s London side out-rebounded Scorchers 52-31, with veteran Tayo Ogedengbe leading Surrey with 19 points and six rebounds. 

Lions were quick out of the blocks as triples from Ryan Martin and Reese gave them a 6-0 lead, and four quick Julian Washburn points kept them ahead.Dean Wanliss was on fire for the Surrey in the opening quarter.

A pair of Reese triples saw London take that lead out to 12 just 90seconds into the second period before former Lion Jules Dang-Akodo hit eight points and Ogedengbe converted two at the foul line to reduce the lead to 34-31 with 5:51 on the clock.

Buckets from Tawiah and Cugini steadies Lawry’s side, and Cugini’s triple completed a 9-0 run before Kaboz’a free-throws sent Lions into the locker room leading 50-39.

Cugini and Reese both scored from downtown as only Ogedengbe kept his side vaguely in touch, and Tawiah’s jump shot followed by a dunk saw London up by 64-49 at the five-minute mark.

A Kaboza triple took the margin out to 19 heading into the final three minutes of the period, and Will Neighbour added to the three-point tally before Kaboza’s lay-up sent Lions into the final break with a commanding 76-53 lead.
