It's arguably the biggest game in the Lions' 44-year history as they face Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Championship Play-off final, on Sunday evening.

The action starts at 5pm on Sky Sports Arena, and is preceded by the WBBL final at 2.30pm as the Lions women's team also face the Eagles.

Both teams go into the game on the back of a big semi-final second leg win and while the Eagles only had a one point deficit to overcome, in comparison to the Lions' 12 point loss against Plymouth, their 88-69 victory against hosts Leicester Riders saw an excellent performance against the regular season champions.

It will be the seventh time the teams have met this season, and it's a repeat of the BBL Cup final which saw the Eagles finish strongly against a Lions' side ravaged by Covid-19 to collect the season's first piece of silverware with an 84-77 victory. The sides also met twice in the group stage of the competition, with the visitors recording a double-digit win in both games. Newcastle defeated London 88-79 on the opening night of the regular season action but the Lions gained revenge with a 109-89 victory at the Copper Box with Dirk Williams scoring 24 points before the Eagles clinched the third game 109-95 in the north east.

There's little doubt who's been the main man for the Eagles this season as Rahmon Fletcher has led Ian Macleod's side - and the entire BBL - with 19.2 points and 9.3 assists per game, while Cortez Edwards topped the BBL steals charts with 2.8 per game. DeAndre Liggins finished second in the BBL top scorers' list with 18.3 points per game and dished out a third highest 6.9 assists per game.

The Lions first piece of top flight silverware came in the BBL Cup final back in 2008 when they beat the Eagles 69-66 at the NIA in Birmingham, and a victory on Sunday would see them complete the full set of all four BBL competitions.
